“I’m a graphic designer and illustrator settled in a very small place in Italy. I’m mostly self-taught but provided with loads of resolution and dedication. I also play electric bass with a couple of bands.”
WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LIKE? ANY FAVOURITE MUSIC ARTIST?
I could start a day listening to jazz, carry on with some funk, bossa nova or progressive and ending with stoner rock or alternative metal. Tons of Queens of the Stone Age lately! I love Motorpsycho, Weather Report, Esperanza Spalding, Fiona Apple, Tool, Faith no More, The Cinematic Orchestra… and I recently fell in love with Kimbra and Lianne La Havas.
TELL US SOMETHING THAT YOU LOVE AND SOMETHING THAT YOU HATE.
I hate to chase up clients to get my fees paid (which is pretty common here). I love when people understand and appreciate the long time it takes to complete a task. I also love to spend the evening out with a few friends and some red wine, getting lost while drawing, bookstores, playing, live music, long walks, kindness.
WHAT DOES DESIGN MEAN FOR YOU?
To me design is function and beauty working together with simplicity.
WHICH ARTIST HAS MOST INFLUENCED YOUR STYLE? WHY?
As an illustrator probably the ones I loved when I was a teenage girl. Davide Toffolo, Jamie Hewlett, Los Bros Hernandez, Claire Wendling were my references in comics and, more widely, in drawing. Their pencils and inks were just hypnotic to me. Later I started looking at gig posters and the new silkscreen movement as well as contemporary editorial and children’s book illustration and graphic designers. Going to painting exhibition is always a huge inspiration too.
Lately I’m following lots of great illustrators, designers and creatives on Instagram which I find very inspiring, I enjoy looking at others creative process.
WHICH IS THE THING THAT YOU USUALLY FIND EASIER TO DO IN YOUR WORKS?
AND WHAT ABOUT THE HARDER ONE?
The easier part is cleaning the table from papers and sketches at the end of a project!
The harder one is figure out the client needs to communicate properly. Also working alone is not always easy, having someone to talk about an idea, style or solution to have feedback in the process would be great. I must say that I’m never satisfied with my works so it’s an everlasting inner personal conflict. Guess it’s the road to improvement…
