WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LIKE? ANY FAVOURITE MUSIC ARTIST?
“Last year I like to work in silence actually but if I have to plug my ears with headphones because there is some loud noises outside the place I’m working because it is possible for me to work in cafes, airports or some hotels in different countries and cities then I prefer some easy listening music and I love to hear some lyrics about divine for example I like Alexi Murdoch a lot, Jack Johnson, Sunsay and some other Russian singers like OdnoNo, also I like songs with mantras (bhajans) like Deva Premal.”
TELL US SOMETHING THAT YOU LOVE AND SOMETHING THAT YOU HATE.
“I love my mama and papa, sister, her kids, I love my wife, I love my Master and my yoga teachers, I love to do yoga and I love to give yoga classes as an instructor, I love to give away something, I love to come back to myself, to calm down and remember that I’m going home here, I love to smile and laugh, I love to inspire someone to change his life, to become better and better, I love to grow, I love to look, I love to feel different and also I love to draw a little.”
“I can’t say I hate something but sometimes I can be confused and amazed with any things like others do.”
WHAT DOES DESIGN MEAN FOR YOU?
“If you mean what does illustration or my work mean for me then it is just a work. Very interesting and amazing but still it is just a work like other works. Yoga means life for me it inspires me a lot, gives energy, love and strength to live another day. Yoga is the core of the life itself. It is the way to unite inside and outside. Very practical thing.”
WHICH ARTIST HAS MOST INFLUENCED YOUR STYLE? WHY?
“Oksana Grivina (grivina.ru) and Andrey Gordeev (be.net/Gordei). They both inspire me a lot. Oksana inspired me with her illustrations – when I saw them I felt like I wish that I can learn to draw like this. Andrey is my friend and he started to do great thing at freelance illustration about 1 or 2 years earlier than me. We had been sitting in a Far Eastern Russian our hometown Khabarovsk and he was working with American Colgate having some amazing budgets so he inspired me to quit a little bit boring office design job and to start freelancing.”
WHICH IS THE THING THAT YOU USUALLY FIND EASIER TO DO IN YOUR WORKS? AND WHAT ABOUT THE HARDER ONE?
“To be myself is the easiest thing. The hardest for me is to continue motivate myself when biggest clients and money doesn’t matter at all. Few years ago I had some sort of steps in my plan e.g. 1) I want to work on a cool project with great idea, 2) I want to draw for a big company, 3) I want that my illustration work cost a lot… and so on. When there was nothing left in that list it started to be just a job for me and if I had no yoga practices, nothing to calm my mind and to work on myself I would stop freelancing I think. Also it is really harder to imagine some illustration to create some idea than to create something from client’s sketches for me.”
