Normen Hood - Interview
Hey Normen! Thanks for joining us today at Minimal Mag. How’s your Autumn been so far?
I took the energy from the summer into the fall and created lots of new sounds. Autumn creates space for new ideas and playful expansion. I even made a Speedhouse track with a DJ friend. That was a lot of fun.
What’s the story behind your upcoming record on Gun Raven, ‘Kaleido’?
The song developed like a kaleidoscope. They share the magic of change and diversity. Just as the reflecting mirrors create a play of light and color, the sounds of the Moog Grandmother and Korg Minilogue combine to create ever new harmonies. Both invite you to look at the world with different eyes – or ears – and to let yourself be carried away by beauty and surprise. Every pattern, every sound is unique and fleeting, but together they create an endless variety that touches the heart. At their core, kaleidoscopes and music reflect the creative power to form something great and moving from simple elements.
You hail from Zürich, how does Switzerland’s dance scene compare to other areas of Europe?
The Zurich dance scene impresses with its intimate atmosphere and focus on quality – every party here is a small work of art. Many clubs feel like the living room of your coolest friends, only with better sound. The attention to detail is also evident in the crowd: people who come to a party often know more about the DJ than they do about the next working day. A classic phrase is: “I’m just going dancing” – which often ends in a Sunday morning where you’re still in your glittery outfit at the bakery at 7am.
Is there a dream festival/stage/venue you’d like to play?
I dream of a festival in the middle of nature with thousands of happy, in-love and wildly dressed people dancing so ecstatically to the music that they even forget to use their cell phones.
Are there any artists or songs currently inspiring you?
Oh, there are so many great inspiring artists at the moment; like Soma Soul, Gespona, Enamour, Djolee and many more
Away from the studio or club, what are your other interests/passions?
I love good food and cooking; it can happen that I spend 2 hours cooking the perfect lasagna.
What’s next for you in 2025?
I will be releasing fresh music on great labels and working on a live act project to give my audience unforgettable shows; stay tuned…
