House music has been a defining feature of the lives of the Parton brothers for as long as they can remember. They have lived and danced through many evolutions of it and bring all that knowledge and a love of 90s style and classy French touch cool to their own work. It has landed them big releases on plenty of top labels, often laden with superb samples and plenty of dance floor impact…
Danny & Mike Parton - Interview
Danny & Mike, welcome to Minimal Mag! How’s life?
Full of good energy! We’re so happy to see that the label is doing so well, especially for a new venture!
This month, you made a return to your Jolene Records imprint, which has seen an impressive run of releases. Could you tell us about the new Jolene 4 EP as well as the upcoming 5th instalment?
We’re staying on course: groove, good vibes—we love seeing people smile and have fun at our parties and with our music! That’s exactly why we started this label. Right now, we all need positive energy. If we can bring a little joy to people, then we’ve won!
What would you say are the pros of releasing music on your own independent label compared to a major recording company?
First, we release whatever we want, whatever we love, no matter if it’s trendy or not.
When you produce music, knowing that it has the potential to be released changes everything. We spent too many years as artists making music without hearing back from labels, or struggling to find a label that truly matched our vision.
And we also love organizing our own Jolene parties, shaping them in our own image, with people who appreciate our releases and come for the vibe that the label is all about!
What sparked your passion for crafting house music as a duo?
We both have very different influences and don’t approach music the same way. Danny is a master of synths and music production, while Mike plays piano and bass. Producing together is a real joy—when one of us wants something, and the other knows exactly how to make it happen, it’s amazing!
And honestly, it’s also an excuse to hang out more, because Jolene is a story of family and love too!
Do you think 2024 was a good year for music?
To be honest, we don’t really pay attention to that kind of thing. We do this for ourselves first and foremost because it’s important to have fun and feel fulfilled as artists and as human beings.
That doesn’t mean we don’t take things seriously or work professionally—it just means we do it with heart and good energy, without worrying too much about success. If it works, great! And if it doesn’t… well, we’ll have had a blast, and that’s already a win!
Which records stood out to you both?
Mike: PALOMA – Louis La Roche
Danny: Music for You (MF Mix) – Stacy Kidd
Who would be your ideal artists, producers, vocalists, or musicians to collaborate with?
Mike: Jackson and His Computerband. I love his world, the way he blends sounds, and how he doesn’t care at all about following trends.
Danny: There are so many! Across so many different styles… But if I had to name just one, a production with Cajmere (Green Velvet) would be insane!
It’s been great to chat with you. Do you have any plans for the rest of 2025 outside of music?
We want to take Jolene parties abroad! We’re starting to make a lot of connections to play in London, Berlin, Madrid… Now we just need to make it happen!
See you soon on the dancefloor! Hahaha
