Argentina’s Kevin Di Serna believes in the therapeutic potential of music. He places great importance on finding real emotion and human connections in his productions, which have come on the likes of Innervisions, Watergate, and All Day I Dream and put him right at the forefront of the progressive scene. We caught up with Kevin to discuss his new EP on Sasha’s Last Night On Earth…
Kevin Di Serna - Interview
Hey Kevin, welcome to Minimal Mag. How’s life?
Hello Minimal Mag, thanks for having me. Life is going well; I’ve been focusing on the balance between the spiritual, personal, professional and all other important areas to take action and maintain well-being.
Tell us about your upcoming collab with Santor on Last Night On Earth.
‘Blessway’ and ‘Please’, two musical pieces that we really enjoyed creating. The collaboration with Santor is very interesting within the musical and personal aspects: sharing experiences, points of view, ways of making music, personal tastes and experiences that result in an artistic expression. We found a great balance with Santor between between experimentation and dance music.
Some really emotive melodies on your forthcoming record here; what impact are you hoping ‘Blessway’ will have on those that listen?
‘Blessway’ represents a balance of masculine and feminine energy. The Masculine part gives it an optimistic characteristic and a sense of believing in oneself (represented in the bass, drums and vocals); the feminine part of the track (represented in the melodies, sequence and arpeggios) adds a subtle shine and good feelings. I feel that it is the best balance of feelings that can possibly be generated within the listener.
You’re currently based in Argentina, what sets apart your local dance scene from other parts of the world?
Argentina has something that is very special, people here are very passionate about things, when they like an artist, they really prepare to go to the event, they listen to the music of whoever is going to listen to the weekend with enthusiasm, and on the dance floor you can see that sparkle in their eyes; the love for music and dancing here is really special.
Do you have any other passions outside of music?
I really love meditating and the holistic world. I feel that it is a good way to get to know yourself as well as your body, mind and soul. Connecting with peace gives us the necessary balance in different aspects of life.
Which artists are you most inspired by? Are there any musical elements of theirs that influence your own work?
There are many artists that inspire me. To name a few: Traumprinz, Depeche Mode, Sasha, Hernan Cattaneo, Leafar Legov, Burial, Ross from Friends and Cameo Blush (an artist I recently discovered).
Do you currently have anything planned for club season?
I am currently traveling to different clubs around Argentina, Brazil, Amsterdam and the rest of Europe. In addition, some new things are coming next year 🙂
Thanks Minimal Mag.
