“I’m an illustrator and comic artist, working for some Japanese publishers at the moment. I also work internationally. My clients are mainly from North America and Europe. I paint some personal works in my free time. I sell them in my print shop. My dream is to hold a solo exhibition someday.
I currently live in Japan, but I will move to Brussels, Belgium this September. I hope my artworks will be accepted in Europe authentically. I’m agog with my new life!”
WHAT KIND OF MUSIC DO YOU LIKE? ANY FAVOURITE MUSIC ARTIST?
“I’m a big fan of Foo Fighters and Nirvana! I admire Kurt Cobain, and I had a Dave Growl hairdo a few years ago. I especially love rock music. My other favorite rock bands are Arctic Monkeys, Black Stone Cherry, The Strokes, The Enemy, Wild Party, JET, and Silvertide.
It might be rare for a rock music fan but I go to see musicals from time to time. I can sing some musical numbers without looking at the lyrics. Yes, I admit that I’m a romantic.”
TELL US SOMETHING THAT YOU LOVE AND SOMETHING THAT YOU HATE.
“I’m addicted to Dr.Pepper Jelly Belly. I really really love them.
And I’m a vegetarian. I feel happy when I can practice a completely vegan diet. I believe my small action will make our world better even though it’s a very small step. I hate global warming, starvation in poor countries and putting a price tag on life by buying meat.
Of course I love my family and friends, not only foods!”
WHAT DOES DESIGN MEAN FOR YOU?
“Design makes our lives fun and better. I’m especially interested in product design. I’m not a designer, but I like to buy well-designed products.”
WHICH ARTIST HAS MOST INFLUENCED YOUR STYLE? WHY?
“I was inspired by various kinds of arts, not only paintings, but photographs, films, literature, performance, etc. I cannot say who is the most, but people often ask me If was influenced by Mucha and Klimt. They are right, actually, I adored Mucha when I was a teenager. However, I prefer rather abstract paintings than realistic ones nowadays.”
WHICH IS THE THING THAT YOU USUALLY FIND EASIER TO DO IN YOUR WORKS?
AND WHAT ABOUT THE HARDER ONE?
“The hardest thing is to start concentrating on my work. But once I concentrate on my painting, I cannot stop it even when I feel hungry or sleepy.
Idea sketching with pencils and papers is always fun. Maybe I can say that it’s the easiest thing for me.”
